Rudolph Lavecchia is a student who attends Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Florida, graduating later in mid-2010. He is also well known for his accomplishments on the Lightning, which is their official baseball team. Standing at five feet, ten inches and weighing in at a mere 155 pounds, this outfielder is also known for his accomplishments as a line drive hitter. In fact, in June of 2009, he helped Cypress Bay score a victory over Taravella when he hit a long home run in the fifth inning, effectively tying the game. This led to the 6-3 victory in the class 6A regional quarterfinals, with Rudolph Lavecchia accomplishing three hits for each of his three at bats.

A right handed fielder and batter, Rudolph lavecchia has been cited as having a throw as fast as 81 miles per hour when he throws the ball back from the outfield. He is also a very durable player with his athletic build and his patience when he is at the plate offers him many opportunities for success. His quick and strong hands have granted him the ability to exhibit a level swing, which, in turn, enable him to take the bat and get the ball every time. Though he is part of the 2010 graduating class, Rudolph Lavecchia has not yet committed to any college; however, he has stated that he intends to major in Physical Therapy. Wherever he may go, Rudolph Lavecchia intends to maintain his right fielder position throughout the course of college baseball, which was his position throughout his career in high school.

In a recent 40 yard dash, Rudolph Lavecchia posted a 5.1 second result, and in the 60 yard dash, he completed the run in 7.4 seconds.

Cypress Bay senior outfielder Rudolph Lavecchia has all the tools to play college or professional baseball. He has a smooth stroke, a firm handle on the strike zone, good athleticism and good instincts in the outfield.

The question for Lavecchia, like many looking to grab the attention of college recruiters and pro scouts, is, can his physical tools grow to match his baseball aptitude?

At 5-foot-10 and 155 pounds, Rudolph lavecchia has a slight frame, but one with potential to fill out and add more muscle. There was no big celebration, which I believe is a good sign. It shows that there is a concentration on the next hurdle, which is winning the American League pennant and ultimately the World Series. This hurdle is going to be a difficult one to leap as the archrival Red Sox are playing their best baseball of the season down the stretch. With
Assuming the Yankees win the division, the next big goal would be securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Again another huge task considering the team right behind the Yankees the Los Angeles Angels are also playing some stellar baseball. Home field advantage would be crucial in a series with LA considering the Bombers track record in Los Angeles. The best scenario for the post-season for the Yankees would be, win the division and secure home field advantage and face either Detroit or Minnesota in the first round. Let the Red Sox and Angels got at it and worry about the winner when the time comes. Either way the Boston-LA series goes, the second round will certainly not be a cakewalk.
On a side note, when the Yankees made the decision to let Joe Torre go I was upset. Mostly because it seemed as though they were blaming Torre for the way the Yankees were playing when in fact it was the lack of pitching. Then they made the decision to go with Joe Girardi; again I was upset feeling that if anyone should be given the chance to fill Torre’s shoes it should have been Don Mattingly. After all “Donnie Baseball” was there with Torre, saw the manner in which Torre controlled and handled this team of, lets face it, superstars. So who better to slide into the roll with as little change as possible? Well then came the final decision on who the new manager would be, Joe Girardi. Not going to lie, I hated this decision.
Last season only confirmed my feelings, as Girardi began to make little changes here and there and seemed much too uptight to lead this team in the way that had made them successful. His first season was not a good one. Reasons in my opinion were 1) he tried to change too much to fast. 2) The tight-lipped manner in which he ran the team and 3) PITCHING! (Hmm, same problem Joe Torre had.). Now I was really upset, thinking they let Torre go and he made it at least to the playoffs, with lack of pitching. Girardi’s first Yankee edition failed to make the playoffs, the fist miss for the Yankees in over a decade.
This year the Yankees had made the decision to go after some of the best pitching talent available. They signed C.C. Sabathia, and A.J. Burnett and gave Girardi something to work with. They have both shown to be worth their price tags. Mark Teixeira, has been a huge addition to this team and well worth the money. Without Tex, I don’t think the Yankees are in first place. With the off-season acquisitions made, the eyes were on Joe Girardi. How would he manage this team? Well to my surprise Girardi has done a complete “180″. He has come into this season a much more relaxed manager, but with the same determination to win.
This new style for Girardi seems to be working; my confidence in his ability to lead this team in to the post-season has grown. I guess the Yankees brass did make the right call. Girardi’s determination and drive to win have not changed, but there is a much more relaxed feeling around this team. They are having fun again and in turn are in first place in the American League East, with the best record in baseball. This could be the year when they add number “27″ to their collection of World Series titles.
The only question I have left in my mind is which team will they face from the National League? The most interesting match up of course would be a Yankees, Dodgers series. Torre against Girardi would be an entertaining series for me. For the first time I would have to root against Torre. It seems a little weird for me to say that, as Joe Torre is one of the best Yankee managers of all time. However, there can be only one winning team in this game. It is Girardi’s turn to enter the Yankees history books in a positive fashion by winning the first of hopefully many World Series Championships as the Yankees Skipper.

Pitching is a very important part of baseball. When a pitcher is throwing with good control he is a very important factor in determining the outcome of a game. There are different types of pitches a pitcher can use. This article will explain different types of pitches and how to use them effectively.

Fastballs are used for speed. The amount of break is usually not visible. The ball is rolled from the ends of the index and middle fingers. The wrist is snapped when the ball is released. The curveball is thrown with an outward rotation of the hand and arm.

The ball is spun between the thumb and forefinger with the middle finger and wrist providing the spin. A screwball is thrown with an inward rotation of the hand.It is released with the middle finger and the fourth and fifth fingers with the middle finger and wrist providing the spin. A knuckleball usually breaks in the same direction as a curveball. The first joints of the middle and index fingers rest against the ball between the seams where they are the narrowest. The thumb and fourth and fifth fingers hold the ball tightly. When the ball leaves your hand the bent fingers are extended for additional speed.

There are other pitches a pitcher can use effectively.Good control with your pitches will win ballgames. The greatest pitchers in baseball had good control and were very tough to hit. Hopefully this article will help pitchers become better with their pitches.

Let’s say that you are on first base and a right-handed pitcher is on the mound and he is pitching from the stretch position. After he comes to the set position, you should use a “key” to help you determine if the pitcher is going to throw to the plate or if the pitcher is going to throw to first base for an attempted pick off. The “key” is some part of the pitcher’s body that moves a certain way, where you would then know that it’s safe to take your secondary lead.

If you are attempting to steal second base, it will let you know when you can start sprinting toward second base. Many base runners use the right-handed pitcher’s front left heel as their “key.” In other words, after the pitcher comes set, the runner watches to see if the front heel is brought back toward the pitching rubber. This tells the base runner that the pitcher must throw to the plate. Once the pitcher brings the heel back, he can not turn and then throw to first base or it’s a balk.

The thing I don’t like about using the pitcher’s front heel as your key is that pitchers “play games” with the front heel to deceive the base runner. Pitchers have a tendency to be very smart and I know for a fact what they are starting to do the last several years. Some pitchers will actually move the heel for a fraction of a second slightly back toward the rubber and then deceive the base runner and throw to first base. The runner who is keying on the heel sometimes gets picked off by what should have been called a balk. In fairness to the umpires, it is not easy for an umpire to see something as small as a pitcher’s foot move illegally for only a fraction of a second.

My favorite key is the front left shoulder of the right-handed pitcher. If the right-handed pitcher comes set and you see the front left shoulder go toward first base, get back to the base because he’s trying to nail you. If he pulls the shoulder backward, the pitcher must throw the ball home and you should then be sprinting toward second base if you are stealing. It’s more difficult for the pitcher to be as deceptive with the front shoulder. It’s easier for the umpire to see a balk with the shoulder, compared to a balk with the heel or foot because umpires are not usually looking down low near the ground. That and the fact that the shoulder is simply much larger and easier for the umpire to see.

Using the front left shoulder of a right-handed pitcher is an excellent key and one of the best baseball base running tips for a base runner on first base and is a better key than the front heel!
