These will give you scientific and tried-out techniques that you can adopt in a phased manner. However, the following tips are also useful.

* Warming Up: In order to avoid strains and other problems, it is essential to warm up by running up or down the stairs or jumping with a jump rope before undertaking any strenuous exercise program.
* Squat With Weight: This is a basic jumping exercise in which you slowly bend your knees with a straight back while you are standing. In order to build quad muscle volume and power you should go down pretty low and then go back up slowly. Doing a hundred such squats preferably while holding a weight will increase your jumping power. It is important not to mix weight training days with speed/plyometric days.
* Jumping Rope: To improve the dynamism and power of your legs, using a jumping rope is one of the best vertical jump plyometric exercises.
* Small Exercises: As heavy squats and plyometrics cannot be done all the time, it is necessary to keep doing little things regularly such as playing with your quads and calves while sitting, standing on half-bent legs while doing any work, or walking toe-heel style instead of flat-footed.
* Calf Exercises: To achieve the best vertical jump, it is necessary to develop powerful calves in addition to big upper muscle groups. Toe-raises are the basic calf exercises which involve rising on your toes while standing upright and then going down. This should be repeated 50 to 100 times. A better variation is to stand on some stable horizontal ledge with your toes and front part of the foot and hold on to something with your hand. You should then go down with your heels about 30 to 45 degrees below the ledge and then push up until you are back on your toes. This should be done slowly and steadily as many times as you need till you tire yourself.
* Avoid Overworking Leg Muscles: For the best vertical jump, it is necessary for the large leg muscles to perform at their peak and as such, they should not be overworked. They should be subjected to a cyclic load consisting of a heavy workout and then a day of rest or light exercise.
* Jump With Focus: Instead of jumping aimlessly it is important to focus on jumping and aiming to leap as high as you can with every jump.
* Persevere And Persist: There are no short cuts for achieving best vertical jump. Results cannot be achieved overnight. You have to keep exercising regularly with perseverance and tenacity for months before you can see any results.

Plyometric exercises are the best to improve your vertical jump for both basketball training and volleyball training.

The second-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers knocked off No. 1 seed Kentucky Wildcats 73-66 this past Saturday and earned a spot in the Final Four for the first time since 1959. Joe Mazzulla, who is replacing point guard Darryl Bryant, scored a career-high of 17 points and guided West Virginia team with great shooting and defense. The Kentucky team had a poor shooting, especially in the three-point line in which they made only 4 out of 32. Since the start of the game, the Mountaineers used the same aggressive defense that led them to their three previous victories in the NCAA tournament. West Virginia defense closed every space and didn’t let any of the Kentucky guards to penetrate. Also the Mountaineers worked hard with the Wilcats’ posts, predominantly with DeMarcus Cousins, who was guard inside by three players every time he had the ball. Cousins got frustrated and was not able to play at his best level. Moreover, West Virginia didn’t allow any easy shots to the Wildcats and committed several fouls to force Kentucky to the free throws line where they were scoring poorly and made only 16 points out of 29 attempts.

During the first half, Kentucky started scoring and seemed determined to get the control of the game. However the Mountaineers showed great defense and great shooting in the last 10 minutes of the half where they made eight three-pointers and no 2-points baskets, something unusual in the NCAA tournament history. This gave them the confidence needed to keep going. On the other hand, Kentucky missed all their eight three-pointer attempts in the first half but out-rebounded West Virginia, 29-13. However, the Mountaineers had only three turnovers and its shooting was incredible outside, which led them to be up in the game. West Virginia ended leading at halftime, 28-26. In the second half, West Virginia kept controlling the game with easy baskets and great defense. Despite Kentucky tried to get back in the game, they became desperate and their frustration grew as their baskets attempts didn’t go in. DeAndre Liggins was shrilled for a technical foul after shouting to a referee. Wall lost his temper in the game and Cousins yelled back to his coach John Calipari in several occasions.

The Mountaineers grew in confidence and control of the game even when Kentucky got only 6 points away from them during the final minutes. At the end, John Wall fouled out and his team couldn’t do anything else as their frustration was at the top of their minds. At the end, the game finished in favor of the Mountaineers, 73-66. “I don’t want to have excuses. They outplayed us. But I think there were times when the inexperience hurt us,” said Kentucky coach John Calipari, who finished with a 35-3 record with the Wildcats. Meanwhile, Da’Sean Butler, who scored 18 points for WVU, expressed his satisfaction after the great victory against Kentucky as his team outplayed the Wildcats with great defense and simple plays. Butler also added that all their wins will have a real meaning if they go to win the national championship.

The Jawhawks won both the regular season title and the tournament championship this season. The team has won 7 Big 12 championships and 11 postseason league tournament titles; moreover, it improved its record to 32-3, while Kansas State fell to 26-7. The win was KU’s 5th straight victory, as well as the 18th of the last 19 games played. The first half was tied; Kansas State missed its first 12 shots from the field until Wally Judge finally scored the first with 14:43 left to play. Fortunately, the Wildcats weren’t punished for their tardiness aE” the team was down just 5-2. In fact, Curtis Kelly’s shot put the score at 8-8 and, after the Jayhawks missed a shot, Denis Clemente made a three-pointer to the score at 11-8 in KSU’s favor. However, Tyrel Reed responded for KU with a three-pointer to tie the game again at 11-11. After that, both teams exchanged three-pointers until Kansas managed a short 4-0 run to gain a 25-20 lead. With Sherron Collins collecting the last four points, the first half ended 31-27 in favor of the Jayhawks. Entering from halftime, Marcus Morris scored the first 4 points of the second half, giving Kansas a further lead at 35-27.

The difference was the largest in the game until that point, and KSU quickly clawed back, cutting the score to 40-38. However, the Jayhawks were eager to maintain their lead, taking another run of 9-3 to put the score at 49-41 with 10:44 left to play. Just moments later, and with only 5 minutes left in the game, Tyler Reed and Collins brought Kansas to 64-52, an 8-point lead.

Kansas State cut the lead to 6 with a chance to drop it to 3, but Jamar Samuels missed the three-pointer attempt while Morris scored for KU in a jumper, setting the score at 70-62. Two more baskets from each team ended the match with Kansas’ victory, 72-64. During the game, KU shot 44% from field goal while KSU shot for a 34.8%. The Jayhawks made 21 of 34 free throws, while the Wildcats made 8 of 14, all of them in the second half. At the end of the game, Kansas State coach Frank Martin praised Kansas’ talent. aEoeKU is the best team in the country. Every time we made a push today they answered. That’s what makes them so difficult to beat.

They never give in,aE stated Coach Martin. On the other hand, KU coach Bill Self noted that KSU players were great rebounders, a sometimes weakness in his own team. aEoeI don’t know if we’ll play anybody that pursues the ball like K-State in the tournament. And we haven’t been a great rebounding team in stretches this year. Today we were much better.aE The best scorers of the Kansas Jayhawks were Marcus Morris with 18 points and 8 rebounds; Tyrel Reed with 15 points; Sherron Collins with 12 points and 7 assists; and finally Cole Aldrich with 10 points and 8 rebounds. For the Kansas State Wildcats the best scorers were Denis Clemente with 17 points and 4 assists; Jamar Samuels with 14 points; and ultimately Jacob Pullen with 13 points.

The Syracuse Orange, the best team in the NCAA, lost against the Louisville Cardinals this Sunday 78-68. It was the team’s final game in Freedom Hall; subsequent games will be played at a new court downtime. This is the second time this season the Orange have lost against the Cardinals. The first time was just a few weeks ago, on February 14th, 66-60. These two losses are only two of Syracuse’s three losses aE” total aE” this season. The team won the Big East regular season title early this past week and is likely to be the first seed in the NCAA tournament. With this victory, the Cardinals also look likely to find a spot in the tournament. Both teams entered the first half aggressively, although the Orange were scoring a bit better in field goal, shooting for 51.7% while the Cardinals were only at 35.3%. Unsurprisingly, then, Syracuse took an early lead with 6:30 left in the half. Rick Jackson had scored off of an assist from Scoop Jardine, putting the score 21-20. Minutes later, the lead was extended to 8 points with a three-point shot and a layup from Jardine, moving the scoreboard to 35-27. And with just 3 seconds before the end of the half, Egdar Sosa scored for Louisville to make it 35-30.

Both teams started the second half cold, together combining zero points over the opening three minutes. Abruptly, however, the Cardinals came to life with a 10-2 run in a four-minute stretch, taking control of the game. Syracuse cute the Cardinals’ lead to just five points, 66-61, after Onuaku made a shot with 5:20 left to play. The Cardinals may not have needed a savior, but they got one in the form of Kyle Kuric. He came off the bench to lead with 22 points, including 4 three-pointers in the second half. Despite the Orange’s effort, their poor shooting was evident, and Kuric’s performance was so strong that he pushed the Louisville into an assured victory, 78-68. At the end of the game, Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim praised the efforts of his players even when their scoring inside the paint became weak from the Cardinals’ much-improved defense in the second half. He also gave credit to the Louisville’s offense, which knew how to counterattack the Orange’s zone defense and make use of rebounds.

Sometimes in this league it just comes down to matchups. Louisville’s a zone team, they practice against it everyday, and they’re the best team in the league against our zone. That’s what we do well; rebound the ball. I thought Louisville just went after it harder and did a better job on the boards than we did,” said Boeheim. Syracuse forward Wes Johnson stated that his team lost control of the game in the second half; the players had become a little desperate when they realized they couldn’t score. aEoeI think we lost our composure in the second half a lot more than in the first half. It got loud and after that I think we just lost our composure, and that’s something we rarely do and we did today,aE said Johnson.

Online Betting – Hey Duke-Haters…it’s been a tough couple of weeks and things look to only get tougher.

Online sportsbook currently have Coach K and the boys listed at +125 to win the NCAA hoops title, followed by the West Virginia Mountaineers at +175, the Michigan State Spartans at +350 and the Butler Bulldogs at +400.

West Virginia vs. Duke

The Blue Devils are the only #1-seed left in the tourney and head into their Final Four matchup against the Mountaineers listed as 2.5-point favorites, with the Over/Under set at 131.

The last time these two met in March Madness was in 2008 when WVU defeated Duke 73-67, covering as a 4-point underdog.

Back to the present, the Blue Devils are 4-0 straight up and against the spread during this year’s March Madness tourney. They are 15-5 SU in their last 20 games in the month of March and are 18-2 SU in their last 20 games overall.

However, Duke is a horrendous 2-7 SU and 2-7 ATS in their last nine when favored by 4-points or less.

Over/Under Numbers: In their last 20 games overall, Duke has a record 6 Overs and 14 Unders.

In their last nine games when favored by 4 points or less, they have a record of 2 Overs and 7 Unders.

The West Virginia Mountaineers have been equally impressive in their last 20 overall, with a record of 17-3 SU.

In terms of Over/Under numbers, the Mountaineers have produced 1 Over and 7 Unders in their last eight games.

The players at online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com have given Duke a slight nod in terms of betting action, with 56% of all the volume on this one tilted to the Blue Devils.

Michigan State vs. Butler

Sportsbook – To the casual bettor, it might seem a little odd that the Michigan State Spartans — one of last year’s Final Four and the runner-up — are listed as underdogs of 1.5-points for their Final Four tilt against the unheralded Butler Bulldogs; the Total is set at 126.

But the Spartans are missing regular season leading scorer Kalin Lucas, who is out with an Achilles’ tendon injury, and the Butler campus is located in the same city as the Final Four, Indianapolis, Indiana, giving the Bulldogs a homecourt advantage.

The Spartans are 15-5 SU in their last 20 games overall and in their last 20 games in the month of March, they are 16-4 SU and 14-6 ATS.

The Butler Bulldogs are only 10-10 ATS in their last 20 games overall, but they are also 20-0 straight up.

During their 2010 March Madness journey, the Butler Bulldogs are 3-1 ATS, pulling off some big upsets along the way. The Bulldogs took out their region’s top seed, the Syracuse Orange, in the Sweet 16 winning 63-59, covering as 6.5-point underdogs.

The Bulldogs then knocked out the second-seeded Kansas State Wildcats in the Elite Eight by a final of 63-56, covering as 4-point ‘dogs.

However, the Butler Bulldogs are only 3-6 SU and ATS in their last nine games when favored by 2-points or less.

The sports betting public look like they think this might be the end of the road for Butler, with 60% putting their money on the small dog Spartans to move through to the Championship game.

Enjoy the games!

The Los Angeles Lakers have won the most NBA championships out of any in the NBA. They look to continue that winning tradition by taking on all comers. The Staples Center is consistently sold out and they will face teams like the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs in the near future. As far as the playoffs go, unless they collapse they will clinch a playoff spot and perhaps the number 1 overall seed. This also guarantees them home field advantage in the playoffs.

Kobe Bryant will return healthy and Pau Gasol will patrol the paint in hopes of boosting the Lakers to the number one overall seed. The Denver Nuggets will stand in their way as they hold very closely to that number two position. It will be hard to get past the Nuggets, who are coming off a three-game slide where they beat the young Oklahoma City Thunder. Los Angeles has shown their weakness as of late when their perimeter defense has slowed down allowing teams to shoot 25 percent more three’s a game.

If you’re looking for Lakers basketball tickets, you can find them at retailers of online ticket agencies. The Lakers average 106 points a game at home and that high flying offense is difficult to stop. They hold a 29-5 record at home and that number can only go up. Their record is nothing short of fantastic and they are poised to make another run at the NBA championship. Phil Jackson and the gang will be ready for anyone who comes into the Staples Center to try to take them down.

If you play basketball and you use the web, you have probably found sites with drills to help you jump higher. You have read about plyometrics and how to improve vertical jumps using explosive muscle activity. And if you’ve truly executed the drills everyday for a while, you may even have gotten an inch or two increase with your jumps.

So why haven’t you gotten the ten or twelve inches promised by the guys in the articles? It’s because there is considerably more to gaining altitude in your jumps than just performing a few drills. If you’re genuinely serious about your game you need to fully grasp what it truly requires.

Very first and foremost, you need to know there are nine factors you possibly can develop to improve your vertical explosion and quickness. Will you do better targeting just one of these elements, or ought you work on all nine? That could seem like a silly question, but unfortunately most applications only target one or two.

Targeting all 9 factors enables the quickest likely results. The cumulative effect of effectively training every single factor produces effects speedily. Making improvements in your form alone can, upon mastery of the methods, raise your vertical from 2 – 4 inches. That’s without even adding strength.

Untargeted but extremely involved muscle groups have been left untrained by most vertical jump training packages. Use these muscles to get your entire body included in upward propulsion. What are untargeted muscle groups? They are muscles usually overlooked by a lot of or most physical exercise regimens. Leg, back and abdominal strength are obviously needed to develop vertical jumps. Do you understand there is one more set of abdominals that amateur athletes usually neglect? I’m not referring to that six pack you get from sit-ups. There is the transverse abdominal wall, underneath them, which plays a key role in each power motion. They are within your deep core and you can make them stronger by performing the appropriate physical exercises the correct way.

That’s an additional issue. It’s essential to understand correct training methods and that 90% of individuals are performing the correct exercises the wrong way. Executing them the right way will skyrocket your results.

To get a true improvement with your vertical jumps, you need a program that combines each factor of vertical explosion instruction into one uncomplicated and complete guide. The majority of packages merely isolate 1 exercising method and consequently miss out on the enormous advantage of a comprehensive multi-faceted instruction approach.

Find out about all nine of the improvable aspects of jumping at The Jump Manual. And if you’ve got a minute, check out the video at Learn to Jump Higher and see who the shortest player ever to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest was. Hint: Chances are good that you’re taller than he is.

Strong legs will enable you to jump higher, am I correct? Well, perhaps to a great extent. But if you’re working out inside the weight room and neglecting plyometric instruction, you’ll certainly not achieve your goals concerning vertical jumps.

Plyometric instruction is created to generate rapid, powerful movements. It will develop the functions in the nervous system and is utilized generally for the objective of improving performance in sports. In plyometrics, a muscle is loaded and then contracted in rapid sequence, utilizing the strength, elasticity and innervation in the muscle and surrounding tissues to leap much higher, run faster, throw farther, or hit harder. Plyometric education is used to increase the velocity and force of muscular contractions and in this way will increase the height of your leap.

Compare the actions of the forklift and a catapult. Both will lift a specific quantity of weight. The forklift may well even be able to lift a lot more weight than the catapult. Why then does the load lifted by the catapult go so much higher and farther? It’s simply because of the rate at which the catapult lifts its load.

It is precisely the exact same principle in basketball. The strongest guy on the team isn’t necessarily the same 1 that jumps the highest. In reality, it is feasible to put emphasis on strength and neglect pace to the point exactly where it really hurts one’s capacity to soar.

The formula then is: Strength + Rate = height. Keep in mind, when we talk about rate we’re talking about how quick a muscle contracts and releases. That’s where we need to work to be able to raise vertical jumps.

Hey, who was the shortest player ever to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest? Check out the video at Learn to Jump Higher

If you are new to finding a basketball knee support, you might have noticed that there are a ton of different basketball knee braces on the market. The vast number available on the market can make the task seem overwhelming. Once you read through the questions and information below the task will be much more manageable.

Our goal here is to help you, not to advertise a certain brand name to you. Consider the following questions. This way the decision making is up to you. Once you can answer these questions, then you will know how to find the best knee support possible, when you are playing in any sport.

If you are looking for a knee brace, then here are some important questions you should ask yourself first. The reason why we ask these questions is that there are knee braces specified for these criteria.

1.) Do you have a mild to moderate knee injury? (Several types of knee braces are focused on mild to moderate injuries only, usually they are simple neoprene knee sleeves, or drytex hinged knee supports)

2.) What is your knee pain on a scale 1-10? (Usually, the bigger the knee pain, the bigger the knee support needed.)

3.) Do you have a serious knee injury, like a complete ACL or an MCL tear? (These knee braces usually have a dynamic hinge on each side of the knee with medial and lateral uprights for support)

4.) Are you trying to prevent a future knee injury?

5.) Do you need a knee brace that will help hold your knee cap in place? (If this is the only issue, usually you do not need a big knee brace, a smaller one will usually suffice)

To make the best choice possible, it is wise to consider your knee issue first, then look to the sport you are playing. – In addition, one rule of thumb is that usually the larger the knee injury, the larger the knee brace.

Several studies have shown that people usually do not need custom knee braces. – This might sound a little bit silly, but we like to ask this question: Are all your clothes custom made? If they are not custom made, we are willing to bet that they probably fit pretty well. Do they not? – The same thing happens with non-custom knee braces, non-custom knee supports usually fit great, plus this means that you get to save some money too.

Nutrition is the New Competitive Advantage in Basketball

Coaching basketball is a very challenging and rewarding profession. Getting a job as a basketball coach on any level is also very competitive. No matter the level of play there is a demand on the coaches to produce results. Even at the high school level a coach will not survive long if their program continues to lose. Coaches are always looking for a way to get a competitive edge. Coaches will pay large amounts of money to go to coaching clinics or will study new coaching schemes. Yet, one of the areas that coaches haven’t explored is the nutritional factor of their athletes.

Coaches will always do everything they can to get the best workout for their players. They will also look to get them into a weight lifting regiment. Yet, when it comes to what the players are putting into their bodies the coaches usually leave that decision up to the individual player. At some point each player has to take personal responsibility for making themselves into a better player. One of those responsibilities is to have a healthy diet.

It is very hard to force anyone to eat a certain diet; however, there is an easier way for coaches to increase the nutritional advantage that their players have. Increase the amount of protein that their players have in their diet. An increase in protein allows the players to create more lean muscle, which will increase their performance on the court, durability during a season, and over all endurance. The body almost never converts protein into fat, taking away any worry that a player would be getting too much protein in their diet.

There is also a simple metric for how much protein a player needs in their diet. The amount of protein that someone who is actively training should intake is equal to half of their body weight in grams. For example a person that weighs 180 pounds should have 90 grams worth of protein in their daily diet. That amount of protein is very difficult to accomplish through pure dieting.

Providing your players with whey protein is a very simple solution to improve the nutritional conditioning of your team. Whey protein is very cost effective, with good supplements providing at least 19 grams a serving. Isolated whey protein is also very low in fats, and consists of 90% pure protein. Whey protein is produced with dairy products that make it easier to metabolize than soy based protein products. Whey protein is very easy to use. There isn’t any cycles or timetables that players need to follow. The players just need to take a certain number of servings per day depending on their weight.

This nutritional advantage is something that professional coaching staffs take very seriously, and a coach that will use the power of protein to their advantage will get a competitive edge over their competition. It is easy, legal and effective. Coaches should start to use protein to their advantage to gain a nutritional edge.
