Michael Vick was not having his best night, as he fumbled twice and threw an interception, in a game that he didn’t even finish due to a concussion suffered late in the third quarter.
There was a great atmosphere at the Georgia Dome on Sunday night for the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. Falcons fans had forgotten about the season opener against the Chicago Bears on September 11 and were excited about their team’s first home game of the 2011 NFL season, as well as the return of Michael Vick to the city, which he defended for 6 seasons, until he was sentenced to 21 months in prison for his implication in a dogfighting operation.
After paying his time Vick visited the Falcons as an Eagle in 2009, but back then he was the third QB, and his presence didn’t ignite a hostile atmosphere such as Sunday’s. Now as a starter all eyes were on him, as many expected a big night from Vick, but his anxiety to make a statement led him to several mistakes that influenced the scoreboard.
Two fumbles and an interception were Vick’s mistakes that night, with two of them turned into touchdowns by the Falcons. Aside from those errors, he was having a good night, as he threw 19 of 28 for 242 yards and 2 TDs, until he suffered a concussion in the third quarter that kept him from finishing the game.
With Vick on the pitch the Eagles finished the first half down by 4. Late in the first quarter Matt Ryan connected his first of four TD passes of the night with Roddy White (Matt Bryant kick), to give the Falcons the lead. The Eagles responded in the second quarter with a TD from Jeremy Maclin (Alex Henery kick), who received a 5 yard pass from Vick to tie things up, and then a field goal from Henery gave them three more points. But with 44 seconds to go before halftime Tony Gonzalez received a 4 yard TD pass from Ryan (Bryant kick), which sent the Falcons to the locker rooms with a 14-10 lead.
Back from the break Ryan connected again with Gonzalez (Bryant kick) to put things 21-10 for the hosts. That TD was a wake-up call for the Eagles that needed to react quickly, and they did it through Maclin again, who connected a 36-yard pass from Vick (Henery kick). Then LeSean McCoy added two more TDs (Henery kick both times) and the Eagles went to the fourth quarter with a 10 point lead.
In the last quarter Ryan continued with his exhibition by completing his fourth TD pass of the night, which set a career high. It was Ovie Mughelli who caught the 1 yard pass (Bryant kick) that put the Eagles back on the fight 31-28. And with 4:48 to go Michael Turner ran 3 yards that allowed Atlanta to rally from a 10-point deficit to a 35-31 win.
Despite the concussion suffered when his helmet collided with teammate Todd Herremans’ one in the third quarter, Vick is not ruled out for Sunday’s home opener against the New York Giants. He was not hospitalized after the hit, and reports say that Vick already told head coach Andy Reid in the flight back home that he was fine. In case he is not fully recovered by then, Reid will have to choose whether go with Mike Kafka -like he did against the Falcons- or Vince Young, who isn’t 100 percent recovered from a hamstring injury.

Nike shoes company that turned Air Jordan into a worldwide mega-brand, isn’t one to miss an opportunity like that. The company will roll out its new LEBRON 8 shoe that day as its namesake player takes the court in his first regular season game for the Miami Heat. Jason Petrie, the Nike designer who crafted the shoe, will be watching with co-workers on the Nike campus near Beaverton. The 35-year-old designer says that moment will be “a dream come true.” It also marks the beginning of an important season for Nike, which dominates the basketball shoe market to a degree not often seen in clothing and apparel circles. Smaller competitors are on the horizon, hoping to carve market share away from Nike. And the Oregon-based company is being forced to look increasingly overseas for new customers, mindful that the U.S. appetite for basketball shoes, apparel and equipment may not grow much more. Given the relenting churn of product cycles, meanwhile, Petrie already is at work on James’ signature shoe for next season. (One for Kobe Bryant, the other bookend of Nike’s basketball-star tandem, is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day.) During product meetings with air Jordan shoes designers and others, James “enjoyed the footwear aspect of it a lot,” Petrie said. “We always saved footwear for last.” Petrie didn’t ask James, then weighing which NBA team he would play for, where he was headed. Ultimately, James’ decision to leave his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers and the manner with which he announced it — an hour-long, pull-out-all-the-stops live broadcast on ESPN — turned off some fans.
Sports marketing analysts and others will be watching closely this season to see if sales of Air Jordan 10 Original OG Chicago Bulls White Black True Red Shoes and apparel will be affected as a result. ESPN last week ran a three-part series that essentially concluded James’ marketing potential had been damaged.
Inter Milan is enjoying an incredible winning streak recently, extending its advantage over second place AS Roma to 8 points and now third place AC Milan to 10. The victory also ended Cagliary’s six-game winning streak and gave proof of Inter’s dominance. Inter has won all of its league games this season and its last eight games at home. The team is rapidly becoming one of the best in Europe, with a solid system and a great group of players led by Samuel Eto’o and Maicon, among others. The game was clearly led by Inter from the beginning. Cagliary had a few opportunities, but Inter showed its superiority throughout the match. The first goal came at the beginning of the game, in minute 6, when Pandev received an open pass from Javier Zanetti to score from close range. Cagliary responded quickly to the first goal. The team saw a great opportunity with Daniel Conti and his 25-yard shot that forced Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar to pay attention. Nonetheless, Cagliary was unable to even the score. The team, moreover, suffered from defensive problems, a weakness that Inter quickly took advantage of. The leaders in the Italian League had clear opportunities aE” as in minute 14 aE” but it wasn’t until minute 20 that Inter was able to complete a play and score the second goal of the game.
A corner shot from Maicon was headed by Walter Samuel into Cagliary’s net. The second goal was a surprise for Cagliary, whose energy seemed to run out after a false goal in minute 33. The shot was deemed offside by the referee, although there were doubts about who touched the ball last. Inter seemed likely to score again before halftime with a free kick from Esteban Cambiasso, shooting the ball straight into Cagliary’s arc, but goalkeeper Agazi saved it. However, Inter recovered after the second half to make up for the missed opportunity. Just two minutes in, Eto’o gave the ball to Pandev, who sent a wide pass to Milito, who took the ball and scored from close range. Nor was this Inter’s last attempt, despite the crushing 3-0 score. The team searched for more opportunities but was unable to complete. Cagliary also looked for points, but was unable to score. The players were close at the end, but Inter’s defense, including goalkeeper Cesar, put up a strong block.
Calgiary was left with no further options, and the game fell to Inter with a convincing 3-0 victory. aEoeThis win against Cagliari is very important because it puts us 10 points above second place,aE Inter coach Jose Mourinho said. aEoeToday we started the match trusting in our offensive mentality. Cagliari isn’t an easy team to play against and even when 2-0 up its players didn’t collapse and tried to make chances, but we were solid and compact.aE Mourihno and his team are looking forward to their next Scudetto, with an 8-point difference from the second place and 10-point difference from their all-time rival AC Milan, which was unable to win its game against Bologna. The game ended up in a draw and Milan dropped to third. AC Roma defeated Fiorentina 1-0.
