Michael Vick was not having his best night, as he fumbled twice and threw an interception, in a game that he didn’t even finish due to a concussion suffered late in the third quarter.
There was a great atmosphere at the Georgia Dome on Sunday night for the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. Falcons fans had forgotten about the season opener against the Chicago Bears on September 11 and were excited about their team’s first home game of the 2011 NFL season, as well as the return of Michael Vick to the city, which he defended for 6 seasons, until he was sentenced to 21 months in prison for his implication in a dogfighting operation.
After paying his time Vick visited the Falcons as an Eagle in 2009, but back then he was the third QB, and his presence didn’t ignite a hostile atmosphere such as Sunday’s. Now as a starter all eyes were on him, as many expected a big night from Vick, but his anxiety to make a statement led him to several mistakes that influenced the scoreboard.
Two fumbles and an interception were Vick’s mistakes that night, with two of them turned into touchdowns by the Falcons. Aside from those errors, he was having a good night, as he threw 19 of 28 for 242 yards and 2 TDs, until he suffered a concussion in the third quarter that kept him from finishing the game.
With Vick on the pitch the Eagles finished the first half down by 4. Late in the first quarter Matt Ryan connected his first of four TD passes of the night with Roddy White (Matt Bryant kick), to give the Falcons the lead. The Eagles responded in the second quarter with a TD from Jeremy Maclin (Alex Henery kick), who received a 5 yard pass from Vick to tie things up, and then a field goal from Henery gave them three more points. But with 44 seconds to go before halftime Tony Gonzalez received a 4 yard TD pass from Ryan (Bryant kick), which sent the Falcons to the locker rooms with a 14-10 lead.
Back from the break Ryan connected again with Gonzalez (Bryant kick) to put things 21-10 for the hosts. That TD was a wake-up call for the Eagles that needed to react quickly, and they did it through Maclin again, who connected a 36-yard pass from Vick (Henery kick). Then LeSean McCoy added two more TDs (Henery kick both times) and the Eagles went to the fourth quarter with a 10 point lead.
In the last quarter Ryan continued with his exhibition by completing his fourth TD pass of the night, which set a career high. It was Ovie Mughelli who caught the 1 yard pass (Bryant kick) that put the Eagles back on the fight 31-28. And with 4:48 to go Michael Turner ran 3 yards that allowed Atlanta to rally from a 10-point deficit to a 35-31 win.
Despite the concussion suffered when his helmet collided with teammate Todd Herremans’ one in the third quarter, Vick is not ruled out for Sunday’s home opener against the New York Giants. He was not hospitalized after the hit, and reports say that Vick already told head coach Andy Reid in the flight back home that he was fine. In case he is not fully recovered by then, Reid will have to choose whether go with Mike Kafka -like he did against the Falcons- or Vince Young, who isn’t 100 percent recovered from a hamstring injury.

Plan it out to where you have a rest day between all of your weight training workouts. Your muscles won’t grow unless they have a proper recovery time. Some people will even take longer to recover than others, so if your muscles are still sore you should wait one more day.
