You need to be aware, when using a pitching machine, that there can be some danger. You need to be aware od the precautions you should take when using such a machine. So, I’m going to outline some of the most important things you can do to stay safe, and get the most out of the time with your pitching machine.

Never use a pitching machine without a sturdy and safe protective “L” screen used to protect the person feeding the machine. Make sure it’s solid before using it too. Rotting or unstable nets can be surprisingly dangerous. Especially look for holes and other weak spots that the ball may be able to punch trhough.

Make sure that your electrical connections are safe. As rare as it might be, serious problems can occur from bad wiring.

You’ll also want to check the accuracy of your machine. You’ll need to set the wheels to slightly different speeds in order to put some spin on the ball, and have it fly straight without knuckling. But, that one really depends on the machine.

Let each batter see a few pitches before he steps up to take one. A batter must have a marked or set spot to assume his stance. An unaware batter may move into the path of the ball if he does not know exactly where the machine is throwing the ball.

Make sure that all balls being thrown are of the same type. Different types of balls fly differently. Balls that are new act differently from old, worn out balls. It’s the same deal for those dimpled pitching machine balls you might have. .

Next, clear out the area behind the batter of anything that could be damaged by foul balls. Any backstop or screen behind the batter should also be checked for holes and weak spots.

Don’t use your new or game bats during your batting practice. The weight of the balls and the speed of the thrown balls can damage expensive thin walled bats.

Always make sure that the batter and feeder have on batting helmets. This rule should apply if a player is feeding the pitching machine.

When using a pitching machine in a batting cage, make sure that the cage walls on all four sides are overlapping enough on the floor or ground to contain all hit or pitched balls.

This one has less to do with safety, and is more of a coaching tip. I recomend someone stands next to the feeder and simulates a pitcher’s arm movement. One commonly used motion is to use two balls. One ball is held in the opposite hand from the hand feeding the balls into the machine. The feeder holds the ball high above the machine feed slot. You can exaggerate a motion to indicate when the ball will be dropped into the feeder slot. It also helps the batter get into a good rythm. It encourages a realistic reaction to what will, in a game, be represented by the pitcher’s wind-ep.

If you have what is referred to as a “quick hip,” please forgive my bluntness but you will have no chance of being a successful baseball hitter. Only on an inside pitch, can you get away with opening the front hip a little bit early.

A “quick hip” is when the front hip opens a fraction of a second early. It is a common baseball hitting problem and a very serious one for many hitters at all levels of play. The swing itself should force the front hip open. If the front hip opens a fraction of a second too quick, it forces your front side to open too early and this is a recipe for disaster for a baseball player at any level of play.

Three Major Problems Occur if You Have A Quick Hip:

1. You will not see the ball well. Your head will go along for the ride with your “quick hip” and you will be looking at the ball out of the corner of your eyes when the moment of truth arrives and you attempt to actually hit the ball.

2. Your power will be lost. You will be leaning toward third base if you are a right-handed hitter or toward first base if you are a left-handed hitter. That is not where the baseball hitting is taking place. The hitting is taking place in front of you, not to the left or right.

3. Your plate coverage will be poor. The only pitch you’ll be able to hit with any success at all is the inside pitch and low and away pitches will cause several baseball hitting problems for you.

I wonder how much young players who are struggling at the plate would improve considerably if they made this fairly simple adjustment at the plate. Keeping the front hip closed is easily one of the more important baseball tips on hitting.

How common is the baseball hitting problem of having a quick hip? Don’t just take my word for it, you can check it out for yourself. When watching a game live either in person or on TV, at any level of play, observe the weaker baseball hitters. (The hitters who are batting .220, .230 or .240.) Keep an eye on their front hip. In almost all cases, it will be opening too early.

Even when you aren’t working out, your body is still working to build up or deconstruct your muscle fibers. If your body doesn’t have a ready amount of protein in your system, then it will be harder for your body to construct the muscle fibers. Protein is also almost never turned into fat cells by your body, so players don’t have to worry about taking large amounts of protein. A protein supplement is the easiest way to get that large amount of protein into their body each day.

To get the most out of your workout while hooping it up, here are some helpful hints.

1 – Stretch before and after you play. Whenever you are doing any type of cardiovascular exercise it is very important to protect your muscles and ligaments by stretching. Just a simple stretching routine before playing will improve your muscles and ligaments performance, and it will also increase your endurance and durability. Stretching after a workout like playing basketball is also important. Long sustained stretches will allow your muscles to build more muscle fibers. A basic post workout stretching routine should include a stretch for both of your side muscle groups, your back, your abs, your groin, and then both legs. (Just remember side-side-front-back-legs-legs-legs.) Those seven stretches should cover the majority of you body’s muscles.

2 – Stay hydrated. Hydration is very important to keep your body functioning correctly. Think of your body as a factory. If you aren’t hydrated then your body will start to conserve, usually leading to painful cramping and muscle soreness. When you have a break, be sure to drink some fluids.

3 – Keep moving when you’re not on the court playing. This doesn’t mean you need to be running laps or doing jumping jacks, but you can be doing simple thing just to keep your heart rate elevated. Just dribbling the basketball, or shooting on an empty basketball while you are waiting for the game to end is a simple way to keep your heart rate up and get more out of your pick-up game. Whatever you do just don’t sit around. Normally your muscles will be fully recovered within a minute to four minutes of inactivity. Sitting around any longer usually just leads to stiffness, and that means less actual game time and less of a workout.

4 – Keep moving when you are on the court. In pick-up games it is common to just sit around and wait for the ball, and do little movement without the ball. This is not only bad for your workout, but it is just bad basketball. Games are more productive and fun to play in when you are active on both sides of the ball. Constantly moving will keep your heart rate up, and it will increase the intensity of the game. As many people know, you don’t like playing with certain people if they are lazy and always demanding the ball. So don’t be one of those people.

5 – Think nutrition. After you are done with a pick-up game, add some protein to your diet. Taking protein within thirty minutes after a long cardiovascular workout such as basketball will help your body to build lean muscle. Lean muscle acts as an engine when you aren’t working out and continue to burn fat calories, even when you are sleeping. Protein is almost never converted into fat, and it also fills you so you are eating any unhealthy items instead. Try to get a good whey protein supplement, with isolated whey protein.
