DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. The first official day of NASCAR practice also produced the first official wreck of the season and then the second one. Near the end of Thursdays first Budweiser Shootout practice session, Denny Hamlin hit Mark Martin’s car from behind. And, as it usually goes at Daytona International speedway and Talladega Superspeedway, many others were caught up in the incident. Seven cars became involved and several others were sent scattering into the infield grass. Five teams immediately brought out backup cars: those of Hamlin, Martin, Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick. “Probably a case of both of us anticipating something where it caused a flash,” said Martin. “I saw him look for the outside and, you know, it was practice, no reason to put the squeeze on him. “I made an effort to give him a lane. I think at the same time, he decided it wasn’t worth pushing it. So he decided to get in behind and that caused us to come together.” Less than three minutes into Thursday night’s practice session drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Kurt Busch wrecked. Busch will use a backup car.

Even with lessons, instructional videos and store-purchased aids, your golf game will continue the way it has been without consistent and efficient practice. Consistent because practice sessions involve exercises that are meant to develop muscle memory. Efficient because pacing your energy to the kinds of exercises you’ll do is important as well.

Simple as this point may sound, it is one that is easily overlooked. Many golfers think that for as long as they spend enough time on the practice range, their score will improve. Unfortunately, that is not necessarily so. To get a better game, it is important that your practice sessions be as regimented as the way you play the game itself, if not more.

Before you groan about how boring practices are, it might help to think that practices are what build good playing habits when you hit the greens. And if you approach your practice sessions as more than chores and see them as yet another fun aspect to your game of golf, the results can only be a game all the more fun than it already is.

First of all, think of your practice session in three parts consisting of:

- the warm-up,

- the fresh stage

- and the fatigued stage.

In these three stages, you will carry out different sets of exercises that when done in the right stages will make your practices more effective giving you results you can see on the greens as you play.

- Warm-up:

Many are deceived into thinking that golf requires no strenuous physical activity as it only involves swinging and walking. Nothing could be further from the truth. The very nature of swinging causes your muscle groups to work in ways not common to everyday routine.

Your upper torsos, arms, as well as your lower back muscles are the groups most worked when playing golf which only shows that it is important to warm up with some stretches. Start from the top of your head and work your way down to your feet. Flexibility and getting your muscles’ full range of motion is your goal. If you are unfamiliar with stretches, you may consult a trainer or the instructor in your club for some tips.

- Fresh Stage

After your warm-up, start working on exercises that build on a skill you haven’t mastered yet, or on parts of your game that’s been causing you higher strokes. This could be anything from putting, chipping or driving.

The idea is that when you work on these problem areas while you’re still fresh and limber from a stretch routine, your body responds more positively to the exercises you’re subjecting it to.

The thing about most people’s idea of golf practice is simply spending time on the driving range without even considering whether or not driving is their waterloo. But if you’re aware that your short game is what’s giving you problems, then you’d do best to hit the greens to work on your putts as soon as you finish warming up. (As an aside, it has been observed that more than 60% of a player’s strokes take place on the green. Unfortunately, this fact is overlooked by many players thus resulting in poor practice habits.)

- Fatigued stage

Once you start feeling winded from the earlier exercises, move on to work on facets of your game that simply need reinforcement. Since your body already knows this motion, this stage in your practice serves as maintenance to your form.

If any correction is necessary, your stressed out body isn’t as pressured to master a difficult form. As in the previous example, only after working on your problematic short game can you then go to the driving range to give positive reinforcement to your drives.

Finally, here are some more observations and suggestions in carrying out your practice.

- To be able to see continuous improvement, a good practice-to-play ratio is about 2:1, which means giving twice as much time to practice as to what you would spend in playing.

- However, give yourself sufficient time to rest in between exercises and in between stages. While it is a work out, you should not be winded down by the activity. Doing so may actually do more harm than help.

Your game should see improvements as you give your sessions a more defined structure. Be consistent and note the results of your exercises to step up that game one stroke at a time.

Punching bags are considered to be one of the major requirements for any boxer who wants to make it big in boxing. Boxers consider it as an integral part in their fitness regime, which enhances their endurance power and helps them to attain high agility which is required for keeping the opponents to keep reaching for the punches.

Punching bags are heavy sacks usually filled with silica or water in order to help the boxers to increase their punching power and also build up intensity which is required to build up their stamina. However, when it comes to training with a punching bag, it should be closely monitored by a professional coach in order to check the form of the boxer and guide him the proper way of throwing the punches on one particular targeted spot.

Most of the times, young boxers are exposed to the risk of injury caused by punching bags, which results in damage to their knuckles or even their abdomen caused due to the heavy impact of the punching bags. It is essential for the boxer to keep focus on the punching bag after throwing a big punch on to the punching bag, because the harder you punch the much faster the punching bag will sway towards you and might knock you out flat on the floor. A boxer should always be on the toes and block the bag when it sways back towards your direction; also it is important to keep dodging until the punching bags are stable enough for throwing another punch.

Finally a quality punching bag is the key for practicing safe punching; a punching bag should be made of high quality fiber which will sustain any kind of punch, providing a safe training to the boxer.

You’ve probably heard it a hundred times that practice makes a man perfect. It is all the more true for soccer practice sessions. The kids enter the ground everyday with a hope to try something exciting and new. Still, it’s necessary for the kids in soccer training to continue practicing the old techniques taught by you on a daily basis.

So here the difficult part for you is to ensure that kids don’t get bored practicing the same drills day in and day out. Given below are certain tricks that’ll allow you to execute practice sessions in a disciplined, expected, and an attractive way.

1. Does this need more emphasis? Kids will learn from you and hence you should be a role model. Be present on the filed before the kids; demonstrate your skill with the ball, let all the kids participate, and arrange sessions ahead of time. You’ll get to earn your players respect, their confidence and trust in you.

2. Instruct the kids to bring their own ball to the field everyday. It’s compulsory for each kid to have a soccer ball. You should be having some extra balls in case some kids forget theirs.

3. There are certain soccer moves that need to be practiced on a daily basis. Kicking, passing, dribbling, and throw-ins account for some basic elements in soccer practice. The kids must practice these regularly. Initially, few of the kids might not want to take part in these but you must ensure that everyone pitches in.

4. Initiate games more than soccer drills in your practice sessions. The reason is that games require much more stamina and dexterity in contrast to drills. And it is easy to keep the focus on soccer as also to test new things with games.

5. Control is crucial for success for any team. With young players, it is no big deal to have mistakes. It is necessary that you deal with all issues of indiscipline as soon as they arise. But mind the method since you are dealing with young kids here and not adults.

6. When the practice session is on, you will notice that some players just stand there while others chase the ball. Make certain that this does not take place. All the players should join the action in some way or the other. Talk to the players about their respective positions and teach them to be responsible in those positions.

7. Never permit too much scrimmage. If the players spend 15 to 20 minutes towards the end, it will do. Also, do not appoint a goalie when scrimmaging. This will ensure that kids become good at defense.

8. Keep looking for new methodologies and games. That is the best way to keep the interest of the kids alive in the training sessions.

Now, go ahead and make these tips work for you in the soccer practice sessions. These will raise the ability and skills of your players within a short span of few weeks. Our youth soccer coaching community has a wealth of resources. Register today and see your team’s performances get better with every training session.

I’m well aware that most of a pitcher’s practice time should be spent throwing the baseball. I’m also well aware that a pitcher who is serious about being successful should find some time for practicing his fielding as well. Ten minutes a day and a couple of times a week is all it should take. Let’s look at some very basic basic baseball fielding drills that a pitcher should practice.

Grounders Back to the Mound. Field the ball and throw to all four bases a couple of times. It’s amazing that some pitchers with pinpoint control when throwing to their catchers will miss their target when throwing to third base by ten feet! The reason is quite simple. They are making throws that are unfamiliar to them. Practice throws to all four bases and they will no longer be unfamiliar throws.

Fielding Bunts. Practice fielding bunts in front of the plate and down both lines. Practice throwing to all four bases.

Fielding Bunts Suicide Squeeze Situation. Practice getting the throw to your catcher quickly and accurately.

Covering First Base. In a nutshell, sprint to the first base line about four steps from the base. Turn and run in fair territory down the line. Chest high target and tag inside of the base with your right foot.

Covering Home Plate. Be very cautious when covering home plate. Along with the line drive back to the mound, it is an extremely dangerous play for a pitcher! Make sure to stay in front of the plate and in fair territory. Make a quick swipe tag with your glove going quickly toward the ground to tag out the runner. In other words, you only want the base runner to slide into your glove and make sure the rest of your body is out of harm’s way. Baseball pitching careers have ended because the pitcher has stood in the path of a sprinting base runner. Stay in front of the plate!

Baseball pitchers should practice their baseball fielding like it’s a live game. If you practice at only half speed, the results you get may be only slighter better than if you did not practice at all. Hey, if you’re willing to put in the time to practice and improve your baseball skills, you deserve to get all the benefits from that practice time. Don’t cheat yourself.

In closing, just remember that it makes no sense at all for a baseball pitcher with pinpoint control to miss one of his infielders by ten feet when throwing to a base. It can cost the ball game. Finding some time to work on your baseball fielding is time very well spent and one of the more important baseball pitching tips.

Let’s face it! Most of the soccer coaches are unaware of the importance of soccer practice games in training. A lot has been researched on this subject and it has been concluded that kids tend to become more interested in the soccer training sessions as a result of it. They play a pivotal role in developing the kid’s soccer talent.

Therefore, it’s pertinent for you to include a lot of soccer games in your practice sessions because of the reasons given below.

Games are fun: As mentioned earlier, games introduce an element of fun in the sessions. The players feel motivated to participate in the sessions and their count also confirms to the schedule. However, you must bear in mind that these games should help in developing soccer skills, else they are no good.

Such games that kids enjoy playing but fail to train the kids in soccer essentials should not be a part of the training schedule.

Variety: There is virtually unlimited number of games that you can employ. Besides, you have the option to decide the suitable timings as well as adjust players in groups depending on their individual strengths. Therefore, you can use games as an efficient basis for developing exciting training sessions.

More productivity: With games as compared to soccer drills, you gain a lot of good results in less time. The kids will get a good workout without feeling fatigued. At the same time, games make the players value each others participation and team spirit. They learn the principles and ideals that are needed to become and remain a part of the team.

Make the players teach themselves: It is said that Soccer practice games are great teachers. Kids learn from their own experiences very well. For example, how to act under pressure or how to tackle tough opponents are just some of the situations that players face and learn from in games.

They also get to appreciate the real conditions through games designed to create real situation. It is especially important to develop these traits in younger players.

Effortless setup: It needs no elaborate arrangements to make a conducive atmosphere for these soccer exercises. You can make do only with essentials such as medical aid, water, and refreshments. Although, some games do requires cones to depict boundaries.

Also, you do not need large fields or ready tracks for playing games. When the weather is not right, you have an option to make the kids play indoors.

Make you an innovative coach: With the introduction of new games every week or so, kids start to believe in you. They begin to trust your abilities in helping them learn soccer in a fun-filled way. You also gain a lot of knowledge as developing new games requires a lot of resourcefulness.

So move forth and incorporate a lot of soccer practice games in your training sessions. The results it brings out will surprise you. In soccer practice games, scoring goals is one thing that adds to the excitement of the young players while playing. For this reason, you must look for opportunities to score goals and integrate for them. There are numerous options that can be exercised to create opportunities from them. For instance: shooting drills, small sided games, and full-field scrimmages.

During small sided games and full field scrimmages, keep varying the processes to promote more goal scoring. You can include such games that can be played without a goalie, or restrict their moves inside the warning lines. Widening the goalpost being used or adding more goals is one more possibility for increasing goal scoring.

In soccer training, when players develop their shooting technique and tactical knowledge, goal creation also increases. Just like with passing skills, it’s better to introduce shooting techniques at an early stage but put more emphasis on them in the later stages of development.

Carrying out soccer drills is one of the means to equip the players with requisite shooting skills. Shooting drills develop and improve the shooting skills that players require to successfully score goals. So it becomes your duty as a coach to help your players grow as experts in shooting techniques.

Throughout the soccer exercises, train your players to perfectly strike the ball while shooting it. Players are free to shoot at close range from the inside of the foot. In using the inside of the feet, you bring more precision into the shots. When the situation is such that more strength is needed to hit the ball, ask the players to strike the ball using the instep of the foot, with toes pointed downwards and ankle locked.

How you position the non-kicking foot impacts the height of the shot. So players should be taught to position the non kicking foot a little ahead of the ball to keep the shot low. Remove all distractions for example moving balls, moving shooters, or defenders to help the players focus only on striking the ball.

Kick start the drill progression in soccer practice games with the help of stationary ball and a striker. As the shooting techniques progress, add to the challenge by putting the shooter in action before he/she hits the ball. This modification will deviate from the accuracy of the striking efforts at first, because the player’s visualization must serve a double purpose.

One, it helps the shooting player to get some space in the direction of the ball and two, it helps them manage their foot right where the ball is.

As players grow in confidence, increase the difficulty by putting both the shooter and the ball in a moving state. When they make progress in shooting, make them receive the balls at different speeds.

Here you go! By introducing many opportunities for scoring goals in soccer practice games, you can make the players benefit a lot out of their sessions. For even more tips and tricks on youth soccer, subscribe to our youth soccer coaching community.

In comparison to drills, anyone who has the same bent of mind as mine will understand the importance of soccer practice games. Initially, the games must focus on helping the kids acquire the skills and improving their movement with the ball. However, as they progress with their soccer training, there are a few things that you must observe.

We’ve already discussed it previously that kids enjoy the game more and also get a chance to work upon their individual style of play when divided into groups. First and foremost, the kids must get the freedom to decide on various issues concerning them and this is possible only when the size of the group is small.

As a result of this, the kids will find it easy to roam around in the field when space is more; get in contact with the ball more frequently, and they’ll be answerable for their choices because of few members in the group.

On the contrary, when the kids adapt to playing in groups with few players and also improve on their skills, introduce some variants. Bring in progressions in soccer practice games at this point in time. This means that more players should be added, game rules should become stricter, and make the kids practice in larger fields. It’s time when team’s overall objectives should also be catered to together with player’s individual development by bringing in a more elaborate strategy.

Pay special attention to what I mention here. Many coaches go wrong when they teach too many things too soon to their kids in the anticipation of preparing them well in advance. Realize that there are no shortcuts to success. Just like soccer drills, you cannot mechanize the process. Kids should progress naturally with time.

The designs may not work well if you expose students to competition, teach them new things early in their training, and lay a lot of emphasis on rules. This leads to a block in their ability to learn.

When kids progress from smaller groups to larger ones, they should inculcate team spirit and understand the objectives behind the games. It is crucial to understand the difference between focusing on your own skills at one time and then using those skills to win the games for your team.

At this stage, along with games, it also becomes important to hold regular discussions and team meetings. Keep in mind that the players now understand the game and its techniques. As a result, it is a blunder to ignore their skills in soccer exercises.

When you invite them to share their views, they feel good about it and become more responsible.

The games should now concentrate on making the kids think proactively about winning matches. If they put their team above themselves, you have done well as a coach.

Now you must use this knowledge in your plan. Soccer practice games are essential for making the kids learn naturally and so you must be very creative in selecting them. Become a part of our youth soccer coaching community to learn more about various games and strategies that go with it.

I’m not sure if you know this but in soccer practice, almost everyone feels that players are born with the physical capacity to play the game. Soccer performance of the players can be improved greatly by training them on many fitness mechanisms, even though the basic skill is inherent.

In order to develop an efficient soccer training curriculum, you must first know the demands of soccer. There are many components that lay the fitness foundation for soccer. To name a few, flexibility, control, power, pace, agility, and resistance are some.

These elements can be ranked in the order of importance to suit your individual requirements and goals. But it would greatly improve the player’s performance once these components become a part of the practice sessions.

In soccer drills, the following fitness components will be given a closer look to understand their link with the soccer performance. In the game of soccer, there are some movements that need a wide variety of actions. In soccer practice, this accounts for the main reason why flexibility training must be practiced daily.

The advantages of improved mobility and flexibility are seen only after some time. To maintain flexibility is easier when compared to building it.

In coaching soccer, lessons on maintaining a full range of movement will help generate high level performance on the soccer field. In general, you should include flexibility drills on a daily basis that require striking the ball, sprinting, and jumping. Because the game is reactive to a great extent, better flexibility would give the players the talent to make prompt decisions in field.

Goalkeepers take up a large space on the field from all possible angles. So, they need a lot of variety in movements. Midfielders who possess the ball also need to do a lot of different maneuvers on the field. The players who attack have the benefit since they can move when manipulating the ball among the opposition.

When the body is flexible, you can move your body over an increased range as also prevent injury. During the practice session, preventing injury is of utmost importance. Flexibility is crucial in situations where due to increased running and training, the muscles feel exhausted and the playing posture is affected. And then, cool down exercises bring a lot of relief to the players.

If there is no flexibility in soccer coaching, fitness gets severely impacted. On the contrary, when there is flexibility, the movement is varied and more. An additional performance benefit that can get better through increased flexibility is speed. Having agility in your hip, knee, and ankle joints will enhance your stride frequency in addition to the ability to stretch your stride during top speed running.

In conclusion, always remember that being flexible in soccer practice sessions requires a progressive and a regular routine. This will happen only when there are a variety of flexibility exercises in your routine.

There are some really easy ways to successfully teach and train certain techniques in soccer practice. The kids can be trained on three different kids of techniques. There is no difference when it comes to teaching a soccer skill or any other skill. These training methods are called differently by different people. I call it as “FIG”. Subsequent paragraphs will have the illustration of this term.

Foundation: In soccer training, this consists of the base upon which the team’s coming stages and eventually the entire future as a team would rest. The lowest level trainings therefore form the basis of the game. It’s necessary for every kid to know and learn these skills even when these are of no use in actual game. A resourceful team and all-rounder team members can make a team a match winner and for that a strong foundation is required.

Intermediate: In FIG, “I” means Intermediary or intermediate. These are the middle level techniques that are necessary in attaching the basics with the game skills. It is therefore necessary to realize that there is a significant difference in what mid level skills do in comparison with actual game skills. When it comes to soccer coaching, intermediate skills and game skills are not the same. But they have a significant role to plan when it comes to building game skills.

Game: G means the actual game skills that aid in developing an individual into a soccer player. These skills make the players learn the crucial skills that are necessary to play the game.

While using FIG in soccer drills, always use the demonstration-performance method. What is meant by this is that you first come up with an introduction, then describe the body, and then conclude. The players must be told in soccer practice what you are going to teach them. Then show them how to do it so that they can do the same. In the end, have them do it.

Teaching has three essential elements; One, kids must be told how to perform. Help them understand the skill and then show them as to how it is important for their growth in soccer. Second, they must be shown how to perform the technique. Display the skills that you wish them to learn in front of the players. It is generally known that kids pick up visuals more.

And last but not the least, have the players practice the technique/ skill. Sufficient time must be allowed to the kids so that can practice the game. Run through as many repetitions as required so that kids learn better. Do not speak a lot. Instead, you can focus on displaying the tricks and encouraging them to practice.

Finally, educate the players about how well they performed in soccer practice. Also tell them what steps they need to take to improve even more. Just test it right away and you will be surprised at how well it improves your training routines.

Join our youth soccer coaching community that has tons of such valuable tips and tricks.
