The times are rough in Puerto Vallarta. Many people are in need of our contribution and support. And it is only with our help that a change can come in the lives of these individuals. An organization called Casa Infantile Mojoneras depends completely on charitable donations in order to perform all of their duties efficiently.

The future of every civilization, every nation and community has always been the young blood. It is the young blood that steers the way for the future generations to inhabit the world and make it better. Henceforth, a better life, a better future begins with providing better facilities to the children of Puerto Vallarta. Given that, the individuals who are crushed the most under the tyranny of poverty are the children. Poverty is like plague, which passes from one generation to another, and in order to obtain a cure for this plague the people of Puerto Vallarta need to step up and break this useless and damaging chain of life.

These children need to be sheltered from the evils of the world which include abuse, exploitation, poverty, lack of education and violence. Their right to survive and live with their head held up high in this world, where it is essential to grow and develop, is what primarily Casa Infantil Mojoneras works for in Puerto Vallarta; to provide a better future for the children.

Casa Infantil Mojoneras is a great organization that strives to provide an environment based on love, care, affection and respect for these children who are in abyssal poverty. In this centre every child is given the right to stay, and be sheltered. Up till now, no child has been turned away or been refused admission because refusal and rejection are problems that this organization is trying to eradicate amongst these children.

The focal agenda of this organization is to instill those principals in the lives of these children which make them responsible, loving and caring human beings. Education, Food, Clothing and Social Skills are provided to these children who by availing these bountiful opportunities become secure human beings. Casa Infantil Mojoneras is the sole sanctuary of these children against evils like drugs, prostitution, abuse and alcoholism.

This organization now needs the help and support of the people of Puerto Vallarta so that they can shift to a bigger place to stay. In order to attain a new building this organization is arranging a Sports Auction which is going to be held at the Outback Steakhouse on the 14th of July at 8 p.m. The pieces that will be auctioned off are two football t-shirts which have been autographed by the popular Mexican player, Rafa Márquez. Other articles that will be auctioned off are one t-shirt and 1 football which is autographed by the whole Mexican beach soccer team. T-shirts also autographed by singers like Kalimba, Yahir and Izkander will be auctioned. A number of art works and paintings from many talented local artists will also be auctioned and folks…there are many more articles that will be auctioned.

So please be generous and keep an open heart. And remember all of this is for a great cause. The tickets cost only $250 pesos which also includes a wonderful dinner and the liberty to begin your own bidding. So open your heart and let there be light!

The latest press release issued by Jalisco State Governor’s office confirmed that there have been no cases of Swine Flu in Puerto Vallarta yet. Still however, the state is taking measures to avoid this outbreak. Puerto Vallarta is taking steps to save the residential areas, towns and cities around the state and other tourist spots.

The city has started with the basic steps by closing down all night clubs and bars especially in the Old Town until May 4-6. Some bars located north of Centro are open and all those having license are allowed to remain open. A number of events and shows have been postponed or cancelled.

Movie theatres have been closed down until further notice, Taco stalls and stands have also been closed to avoid crowded places. Restaurants are allowed to remain open, but they have to close down by midnight and are not allowed to serve more than 2 alcoholic drinks to customers. The May Day Parade which was supposed to be held on 1st May has been cancelled and the Political campaigns for the general election on July 6 have also been postponed. The much awaited match for the Beach Soccer Qualifier has also been canceled.

The Blueshire Trip Rave scheduled for May 2nd has been postponed. All other activities and festivals including those for the Cultural Department of Puerto Vallarta planned for May have been cancelled or postponed. The traditional Vallarta May Fiesta will now begin on May 9. The State is making a special effort to control visual screening of passengers at air ports and buses too are being cleaned with disinfectants and bleaches.

Drivers are provided with masks. Visits to prisons in Jalisco have also been suspended till May 6. All these rules and regulations have been issued for your safety, so try to follow up and check up on schedules if you were planning to attend any event.

There are doubts that the deaths caused by flu have not been caused by swine flu, instead by the regular flu which kills 36,000 people every year in the US alone. People are in a state of panic and researchers too are worried because this unknown strain has no cure or vaccine as yet. However, confusion continues as according to some reports there have been no deaths caused by swine flu.

Two Albertans have returned to Canada with a mild form of swine flu. This news has been confirmed by the officials however, they have not given out details of the age of the patients or which places they visited in Mexico. Canada fears many more cases now but so far only a few have been reported and no deaths as yet.

A travel advisory has been issued for Mexico, hence Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations have suspended operations to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel till June 1. The airlines say that flights to Mexico will continue. WestJet and WestJet Vacations too have suspended operation in Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta till May 4 at least. This decision is definitely going to affect the passengers, however not the tourism industry of Mexico. As summer approaches, the high season for tourism also comes to an end. The number of tourists going to Mexico for a vacation decreases in number till Mid May, thus the tourism industry will not suffer much loss.

Swine flu has infected a few people and has managed to spread fear in the rest of the millions of people in Mexico. The rhythm of Mexico City has greatly been affected as this busy city saturated with warm friendly people is suddenly empty now. People prefer staying at home and are avoiding meeting with people too much. Catholic Masses were canceled on Sunday everywhere and the soccer teams played for an empty stadium. The rising death toll, the unknown cause and treatment of this disease has forced many to avoid public transport and stay home as much as possible. Fifteen people are expected to have died because of the virus already all between the age of 25 and 37. Perhaps young adults have been victims so far because they tend to hang out more in public places. Though this strain has never been seen before, it shows similarities to the Spanish influenza epidemic which occurred in 1918- 1919 and killed millions of people.

Michelle Mohr says “This is a time for appropriate precautions but do not panic.” The US has not issued any travel warnings for travelers yet, however the airlines are showing more flexibility for those who want to change their tickets. American Airlines and United Airlines are offering travel waiver to customers for their convenience.

This is a stressful period for the country, but you can make an effort to unwind and relax at healthy places. Try Acro Yoga which is an amalgamation of yoga, acrobats and massage. This thrilling new experience will help calm your nerves. Meet Richard Baimbridge who has gathered years of experience from various places all over the world. Richard Baimbridge is now holding classes here in his hometown. He excels in English, Spanish and Mandarin, so residents, immigrants and tourists can all try this new experience.

26th April, Sunday morning was celebrated with P.E.A.C.E as they hosted a fundraising at La Desembocada. P.E.A.C.E dedicated this day to peddling which turned out to be more of a fun activity than a competition. The race began from Le Desembocada, a town that lies 15 kilometers away from Puerto Vallarta. Participants had to bring their own bikes with sturdy tires. Participants were given the option to chose from three various levels; beginners, intermediate and advanced. The race had something for the spectators as well. Raffle tickets were sold out in plenty for a bike gear. T- Shirts for this event, costing only $200 pesos were also sold out.

Who thought Puerto Vallarta does not have its share of sports? The Canto Del Sol Resort and Tennis Club, once again played host to the ITF Futures professional tennis tournament which was held here in Puerto Vallarta for the second successive year.

As the year before, the ITF (International Federation of Tennis) once again, had a five tournament swing through the beautiful Mexico. The reward for the winners was $10,000 USD and it drew Mexican professionals as well as players from the United States. Players from Italy, Ecuador, Australia, New Zealand, Dominican Republic, Canada, Guatemala, Switzerland and South Africa were also the confirmed contestants in the core draw of 32.

A total number of 18 players were allotted direct entries in addition to 8 wild card entries; out of which, some were given to the professionals of Puerto Vallarta. The hard court surface was used to play on, for this tournament. Great things were expected from Luigi D’Agord of Italy who had made it to the semifinals in the last year tournament. Another player, D’Agord also made it to the semi finals, last year but was beaten by the final winner, Marinko Matosevic. Marinko Matosevic, according to his, Mexican run, the previous year, had moved on to the tournaments with bigger winnings. Another seed is, Cesar Ramirez, a 19 year old Mexican who shows great promise as a player and is also termed as the “youngster in the Mexican pro ranks.”

The battle began on the 9th of May, with qualifying slots available. 8 players out of, about 64 began playing, in order to be a part of the tournament. This battle was wrapped up on May 10th. Many of the Puerto Vallarta professionals qualified for this energetic tournament. There were about 64 players. In the two day qualification it took three successive victories over the exhausting span of two days to attain the main draw. However, the turn out was about 32 qualifying players.

The players that participated from Mexico for the main draw were Cesar Ramirez, Carlos Palencia, who had previously won a tournament in Puerto Vallarta and the well-liked Juan Manuel Elizondo. Manuel Elizondo was a finalist in the earlier three tournaments that were played in Puerto Vallarta and he has also won two pro tournaments. Also three other national players were a part of this tournament for the first time.

The game started early in the morning and finished late in the evenings. Also a doubles component of 16 teams was a part of this magnificent tournament. The schedule of these matches hopefully became less taxing as the players reached the quarterfinals, because only the best reached the semi finals.

All the interested spectators were invited since there was charge for the public. The visitors and the sport lovers got their sport’s gear on and had a lot of fun at the competition!
